Osward Y. Carrasquillo, MD, MPH
Born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico, Dr. Osward Carrasquillo is a Mohs micrographic surgeon with a professional journey that underscores his dedication to advancing skin cancer care and his passion for comprehensive patient management.
Dr. Carrasquillo began his academic career at the University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training. As a student-athlete in basketball, he was honored with the award for the student-athlete with the highest GPA as a senior, reflecting his commitment to academic excellence.
He further pursued his education with a Masters in Public Health from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. Then he completed his Medical degree at Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU). During his time at PHSU, Dr. Carrasquillo was inducted into two prestigious honor societies: Alpha Omega Alpha, recognizing outstanding academic achievement in the medical field, and the Gold Humanism Honor Society, celebrating his exemplary compassion and commitment to humanistic care.
Dr. Carrasquillo's clinical training included an intern year at Auxilio Mutuo Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico, followed by a residency in Dermatology at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. His residency provided him with a strong foundation in dermatologic practices and patient care.
To refine his expertise, he completed a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at the University of North Carolina. He is double board-certified in Dermatology and Mohs Micrographic Surgery.
Dr. Carrasquillo is recognized for his extensive research contributions, having published over 25 peer-reviewed journal articles. His expertise encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of various skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, among other rare skin tumors. He is also a skilled practitioner in facial reconstruction.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, Dr. Carrasquillo connects effectively with a diverse patient base. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys a range of activities including basketball, Formula 1 racing, reading, music, salsa dancing, cooking, and traveling, reflecting his vibrant interests.
